Compensation
MedStar employees are initially compensated based on years of direct experience when the employment offer is made.
Once employees have been with MedStar for one year, they are eligible to receive a merit increase based on their individual performance. Merit increase budgets are determined annually which in turn determine the range of merit increase percentages available to employees. Any increases awarded for certification progression or promotions are separate from merit increases.
Employees are also eligible for an annual 5% incentive bonus that is based on company/departmental goals. This bonus is based off the employees' based annual salary.
Overall, MedStar's compensation philosophy is to be at 100% of our market. Our market consists of other comparable high-performance EMS systems as well as some local fire departments. Each year, an analysis is conducted to ensure that our salary ranges are competitive. Salary ranges are increased accordingly based on the results of this analysis.
